Our Spring community service event was a #StocktheBox challenge where we stocked all 18 blessing boxes in Topeka!
Keep an eye on our upcoming events to join us next time!
It all started with Donna Rae Pearson, who wanted to see a Blessing Box in her neighborhood of Central Topeka. Especially following the loss of a major grocery store in early 2016. She approached Home Depot to help and they sponsored a Blessing Box Build Workshop to construct 6 boxes for FREE on December 17, 2016! The Builders represented a wide range of organizations and got to decide where the Blessing Box would be installed.
Four Builders, Anjelica Pearson, Kaelyn Seymor, Teresa Switzer and Donna Rae Pearson worked under the guidance of Home Depot staff to construct all six boxes in about 5 hours. The demonstration Blessing Box was also given to the project. Today there are 18 blessing boxes around Topeka including one right here at First Presbyterian Church. The small structures, similar in appearance to Little Free Libraries, house free nonperishable food and other items such as toiletries, laundry detergent and socks.
